October Newsletter

October 20, 2008

Hi Yogins,

Welcome to the October newsletter. I have heaps to talk about this month, with probably the biggest news being the expansion of the studio, which will take place on Nov 8-9. There will be no disruption to the regular class schedule, and if all goes according to plan, we will be able to fit some more people in to our packed 9am class on Monday 10th of November.

Please note, that although the expansion will allow up to 6 more bodies in the class, I hope that it won't take long to fill these spots. As such, I would be very appreciative if you could all continue to book classes in advance (via text, name on whiteboard), and also give me as much notice as possible when cancelling a class. Also, once the new look studio is up and running, I will also implement a stricter start time. With the exception of the 5.10pm classes (a little leeway for our local 9-5ers) please call if you are running a little late, or you may find the door locked upon arrival. This is for the benefit of other class members, who have started their practice already, and would rather not have to stop to move from their position. Thanks in advance for your cooperation in these matters.

Some news for the ladies. Yoga Vida has teamed up with Lorna Jane to provide you with the latest in Yoga fasion. There will soon be some of this season's gear on display in the studio. Nadine, from the Mooloolaba store has been kind enough to provide some vouchers as well, so more news on that to come. We will also be teaming up to provide a charity yoga day in Double Bay park (next to Montego's, Lake Kawana) in the near future. This will be held on a Saturday morning, and I hope some of you will volunteer to model some of her clothes while we practice some open air yoga at this wonderful venue.

For all you triathlon fans, please keep Sat 1/Sun 2 Nov free to head up to Noosa to watch one of the Coast's best sporting events. Keep an eye out for our Yoga Vida/Ecolife marquee, and feel free to drop by and say Hi. The mens main event will showcase two of our champion triathletes, David Dellow and Cam Watt, fighting it out for top honors. You may have seen them going hard in the yoga studio, but now watch them shine at what they do best. Backing up from the Gold Coast Half Iron Man triathlon last weekend where they came a very respectable 1st and 3rd. Show them your support and hopefully they can make it a 1st and 2nd on home turf.

This month's posture of the month is Padahastasana. In our current sequence you will notice that we practice this posture with our hand grip from the front and the back. Please go to http://www.jimmyyoga.com/ to get the good oil from my teacher Jimmy Barkan. Take careful note that it is more important to get the grip correct and the torso on the thighs, than it is to straighten the legs.

Finally, to coincide with the renovations, I plan to add our first Sacred Music class. Performed in a dimly lit room, with sacred music playing, this is a spiritual journey, as well as an intense workout. This is a class for our more practiced yogins, due to there being limited instruction. I recommend having completed at least 10 regular classes before booking in to give it a try. There will also be an acro yoga workshop coming up in the near future, hosted by one of my yogi friends from Brisbane, Tanya Zappala. Acro Yoga is done with a partner, using postures and lifts to gain maximum potential out of each other's practice.

I hope you all have a wonderful month. It is a continued inspiration to see you all improving in your Asanas, as well as evolving into healthier, happier people. See you in class soon.

Namaste, Bryan.

ps. I have just received a new batch of Yogitoes, skidless mat towels. Get in quick to get the colour of your choice. I have been using the same one for four years without any sign of wear, so they really are a great investment if you are getting serious about your yoga. I can also order in sticky mats as well, if you are not keen on getting up close and personal with the provided studio mats.
