Welcome to Winter, and the shorter, chillier days that accompany the next few months. While we have received plenty of much needed rain, let's hope the beautiful sunny winter days are just around the corner. Although it is a little harder to let go of the blankets on these brisk mornings, there is no better way to start the day than getting on down to an am class to warm the body and awaken the mind. For those of you who have braved the elements, I'm sure you can notice a marked improvement to the productivity in your day.
Not much in the way of housekeeping this month. Just a reminder to please text, call or email to book for evening classes, especially the 5.10pm class on Thursdays. This class generally fills up, and the earlier you can book in, the more chance you have of securing a place. If you have had at least five classes experience, why not try Monday night's Sacred Music class at 6.30pm? This class takes place with the studio dimly lit, sacred music playing, and limited instruction, allowing you to find true peace while performing your asanas.
Thanks to all of you who participated in the eight week challenge, which drew to a close last month. I'm proud of everyone who stepped up their practise and/or attended the workshops. The results were proven on paper, with nearly every participant improving their hip and hamstring flexibility markedly. The overall winner of the challenge, earning the most points, was Angelica Sunstar, followed closely by Lyn Molloy and Tracy Waddington. Other prize winners for most improvement included Rachel Cope, Tracey Barkle and Chris Muldoon. I'd like to also thank all the wonderful speakers/presenters who gave their time to educate and entertain us. I look forward to holding another challenge later in the year.
For postures of the month please visit http://www.jimmyyoga.com/ and click on 'posture of the month' button to get all the info from my teacher Jimmy Barkan. I included three Asanas to make up for the last couple of missed newsletters. The three postures discussed this month are Dhanurasna (Bow Pose), Tuladandasana (Balancing Stick), and Eka Pada Kapotasana (One Legged Pigeon Pose).
One final note to consider this month is in regard to your own practise. Always remember that each time you enter the studio, you are doing so for yourself, whether to improve your practise, work on an injury, enjoy some relaxation, etc, etc. I am there only to guide and give advice throughout your practise. Please take as much, or as little as you choose from my instruction as you enjoy your 75 minutes. It is crucial that we listen to our own bodies and minds to get the utmost satisfaction out of each class. As always, I continue to learn from you all, and continue to enjoy seeing improvements in us all. Enjoy your month,
