July 20, 2009

Welcome to July Yogis and Yoginis,

I hope the Winter is treating you well, as we head back towards Summer, with the daylight lengthening and the temperature warming. Time to start getting back into shape, working off those winter kilos, ready to jump back into our togs and the surf.

There has been a lot happening at Yoga Vida this month, with the addition of a new teacher, Katie, a Saturday class, and a change in the Ecolife centre, with the addition of a Naturopath, Joel. I hope the only impact these changes will have on your practice are beneficial, and I apologise for any inconveniences caused by this transitional period.

Firstly, a big welcome to Katie Scholtes, who joins us from Brisvegas, introducing Flow Yoga on Saturday mornings at 10.45am. I have had heaps of requests for a Saturday class, so I look forward to seeing a bunch of you there to join me in welcoming Katie onboard. As the Summer returns and the classes start filling, Katie will hopefully teach a few other classes with the possible introduction of pre-natal and children's yoga.

For those of you who attended a class last week, you may have noticed some big changes in the Eco centre. My entrance has now moved around to the side (Pandanus entrance), to make room for our new Naturopath, Joel Coughlan. The partition doorway and wall are now complete, limiting the logistic problems, so back to normal with the classes. Joel will have a large "A-frame" sign out the front to remind us to use the side entrance. If however, you forget and use the old entrance, he will be happy to sign you up for a Live Blood Analysis!!!!! I am confident Joel's addition to the team will assist in the flourishing growth of Yoga Vida.

Another change I have been slowly implementing, is the combining of the hips and regular classes. As our practices evolve, so does the need for subtle changes in our sequence. As such, I have been including a little more hip work in all classes, and also some back strengthening into the hips class. Hence, now all classes (with the exception of vinyasa and sacred music) will now be referred to as regular classes.
Plenty of room in the Sacred Music class on Monday nights at 6.30pm, so if you have completed 10 classes, feel free to experience this wonderful class.

Does anyone recall my guest writer in February's newsletter? My bro in law Matthew Hammond wrote a comical, yet informative excerpt on financial health. I am now pleased to announce that I have completed my Cert IV in financial services, and joined him in his mortgage broking business, be it initially as his protege. So for those of you in need of money market advice, you no longer have to go any further than your friendly yoga teacher. This will not hinder Yoga Vida in any way, shape, or form.

With all this news, and the fact that I included three last month, we won't squeeze in a posture of the month for July. Stay tuned for next month. Next time you hear from me, the days will be long and warm. Until then, take care,

Bryan
